The InSight launch is scheduled for Saturday 5 May. The window is 6:05am CDT to 8:05am CDT. The Highland Road Park Observatory will be open from 5am to 8am for an InSight Launch Party. Weather permitting, simultaneous twilight viewing of Jupiter, Saturn, the Moon and Mars will occur. This will be the first event with viewing of Mars and as such officially kicks off HRPO's viewing campaign for patrons of the Red Planet which will last through Friday 9 November. (Mars will be brighter than magnitude -0.5 during that time span.)

There will be drinks and refreshments at the Party, and all arriving kids who are registered or will register for the 5 May Science Academy or any of this summer's Stargazers Camp sessions will receive an extra door prize ticket for that session. From 5am to 8am, there will also be a ten percent discount on all HRPO merchandise.

Well...Amy, Trey and I were alone the morning of the 5th. We viewed Mars before twilight and it was spectacular (and we weren't using the 20OGS or 16OGS, either). It still had over a magnitude of brightening left.

InSight is on its way!...

Sarah Marcotte of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory has sent word to HRPO that InSight will land on Mars at 1:54pm CST on Monday 26 November.

As is tradition, HRPO will host a party celebrating live yet another NASA accomplishment. The InSight Landing Party will take place on 26 November at HRPO from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. The party has no admission fee and is for all ages. There will be drinks and refreshments, and solar viewing (weather permitting).
