Mercury Viewing, 2015

Post by Christopher K. »

Is Mercury hard to catch or is Mercury hard to catch? I've spotted this one a few times in locations of low horizon, and I even caught it once at evening twilight with binoculars before I saw it unaided-eye.

For the next three Saturdays, the Highland Road Park Observatory will attempt Mercury viewing with the big one--the 20OGS. BREC Program Aide Jordan Cobbs will operate.

The times are...
29 August, 5:15pm to 7:15pm
5 September, 5pm to 7pm
12 September, 4:30pm to 6:30pm
The viewing attempts have free admission and are for all ages.

Last Saturday's viewing of Mercury went off without a hitch; over twenty patrons came to view Mercury at its half-phase.

Unfortunately, the rain chance precludes attempt a view this week. HRPO personnel will try next week.
