Looking for Uranus? On the night of 23 January it can be found less than a degree east of the F-class magnitude 5.2 star Zeta Piscium. Remember, at least a binocular will be needed.

Uranus lies seven degrees higher than the Moon in tonight's darkening sky. Meanwhile, the planet's separation from Zeta Piscium has extended to a full degree. The Starry Night Pro Plus lists Uranus' current magnitude as 5.9.

Uranus and Venus will be fairly close to each other on the morning of Friday the 2nd. Unfortunately, by the time they are both fifteen degrees up (4:52am CDT) the sky will already have begun to brighten. Uranus will hit fifteen degrees on the 11th at 4:15am in darkness, but that full darkness still only last a few minutes. Be patient!

Uranus is at its brightest at this time, and will be through 26 October. The planet can be found currently about 1˚45' west-northwest of magnitude 4.3 G-class Omicron Piscium; the distance between them will extend to two degrees by the 26th.

Uranus reaches opposition tonight! At magnitude 5.7 it can be found easily as early as 8:45pm CDT. I plan to take a look with my trusty Orion Explorer WA 10x50.

The Science Academy session on 11 October will focus on Uranus and Neptune. The session takes place from 10am to 12pm at the Highland Road Park Observatory and is for ages eight to twelve. The cost is five dollars per in-parish child and six-dollars per out-of-parish child.

HRPO will focus on this ice giant on Saturday 9 December from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. It's evening sky viewing as usual, but preference will be given to Uranus. (This may be HRPO's last Planet Time, as a new idea to promote each planet will be in the works for 2018.)
