Today's minor solar radiation storm is over. Active Region 2473, which produced the M2.3 flare, is rotating out of view and will probably be out of sight before midnight. (S1s pose no threat to satellites or living creatures. These S1s happen on average four or five times a year.)

A filament eruption was observed on the Sun late yesterday. Chances are this resulting coronal mass ejection will little to no concern here on Earth, although it may "graze" us early Tuesday.

No solar radiation bad news lately, although the Sun is not completely "dead". With moderate magnification one can see active region 2501 but it'll take at least 30x to 40x probably too see all the other action.

There was recently a panel at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum that focused on the unique difficulties posed by solar radiation. That panel discussion will be rebroadcast on both NASA-TVs at 8pm.
