The last regularly-scheduled solar viewing time of the calendar year at the Highland Road Park Observatory will be Saturday 16 December from 12pm to 2pm. As usual, weather permitting there will be the Sunspotter, 10" Orion Skyquest and Corono Solar Max II. AR 2689 was pleasant to spy; there may be something similar on the 16th. Tony Phillips says today's Sunspot Number is fifteen.

At 4:01pm CST tomorrow the Sun will leave Scorpius and enter Ophiuchus.

Here is the NOAA forecast for HRPO's planned solar viewing period of 12pm to 2pm...

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "below average" (2 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "average" (3 out of 5).

The Sky Rating for this viewing period is...
EXCELLENT
VERY GOOD
GOOD
FAIR
POOR
BAD

The first solar viewing session at HRPO in 2018 will be 6 January.
