Named after Florence Nightingale, this monster (4.4 kilometers wide) zipped past the Earth at a closest-approach distance of seven million kilometers at ~7am CDT this morning. It will remain brighter than magnitude ten through 5 September. Most intermediate-level amateurs should be able to catch Florence in a six-inch or larger instrument. This will be its closest approach since 1890 and the last close visit until beyond the year 2500!
