Messier 47 contains about four dozen stars. It lies not too far (eight degrees or so) from the Winter Triangle.
I looked at M47 last night at ~7:50-7:55pm CST with a 10x Bushnell binoc. I did not see nearby M46. I did see the brighter components of M47. I simply hopped two fields-of-view from Sirius to the area in question and let mag 4.8 K-class and mag 6.2 B-class stars by my guides.
Globulars or Open, clusters of stars can be neat viewing.
