The 4 February APOD focuses on the very nice work of Maximo Ruiz. In December he imaged reflection nebula NGC 1333 with his Takahasi FSQ85 and Canon 50d at ISO 800. At least part of the processing was with Maxim DL--which was mentioned during the BRAS meeting last night at which Lon Shelton spoke.

NGC 1333 is ~1000 light years away in Perseus and covers three degrees of sky. Most of the visible light from the young stars within it is blocked by the immense dust cloud.

In August 2007 Spitzer found a pre-planetary disk surrounding a just-made star. The disk is, according to NASA, "drenched with water vapor".

Burnham's mentions in its description of NGC 1333 that it has an eleventh-magnitude B-class star on its north edge. I checked Starry Night Pro Plus and found HIP 16243; it is magnitude 10.5, but it's an F-class. Perhaps this is the star in question and it's been reclassed since the publication of the Handbook. The dark nebula B205 is to the south.
