The Tadpoles (IC 410)

Post by Christopher K. » April 29th, 2014, 4:38 pm

IC 410 is a very faint emission nebula 12,000 light-years away in Auriga. Sulfur, hydrogen and oxygen atoms are present in varying quantities.

A composite, false-color image of the Tadpoles was the 9 January APOD:

Daniel B. Phillips used a 7.2-inch Takahashi reflector to image IC 410. He exposed to RGB only for a few minutes each, choosing to use the lion's share of the exposure time for hydrogen-alpha, OIII and SII. The picture is on page 72 of the November Astronomy.
