NGC 253 is a spiral galaxy in Sculptor. It can be found four-and-three quarters degrees north-northwest of the B-class, magnitude 4.3 star Alpha Sculptoris. In October 2012 amateur astrophotographer Michael Sidonio took pictures of this galaxy, one of which is credited being the "discovery image" for a dwarf galaxy currently being consumed by NGC 253.
