2011 Hodges Garden Star Party

The third annual Hodges Gardens Star Party will be Wednesday 30 March to Saturday 2 April of next year.

Hodges Gardens State Park is in Sabine Parish. Boats, canoes and kayaks are available for rental. Any camping for the star party will be "basic"--no hookups. For those who aren't really into camping, Emerald Hills Golf Resort is across the street.

The registration fee for the star party is $10 per adult (free for children under eighteen). The day use fee for Hodges Gardens will be $1--a special rate thanks to park management. Weather permitting, a informal pot luck will take place Saturday night. RVs are allowed, not right on the observing field but on an old airstrip about four-tenths of a kilometer away. The daily RV charge is $12; generators may be run during daylight only.

Only red light will be allowed on the observing field at night. Music emanating from any one spot on the observing field will not be tolerated; headphones are required. Campfires are banned, but gas stoves and charcoal grills will be allowed.

I know this seems rather early a posting, but the deluxe cabins at Hodges Gardens are already filled for that Wednesday night and Thursday night. Also, there was an incredible number of people present last year's Saturday night. The cabins will be probably go quite fast. Emerald Hills rooms should be available a bit longer, but don't dawdle! If you want to go and know your schedule allows it go ahead and book now...if you're not going to use an RV or tent, that is.
