During 2016 the GLOBE at Night measurement sessions are...
1 January to 10 January / 1 February to 10 February / 1 March to 10 March [Orion]
30 March to 8 April / 29 April to 8 May [Leo]
29 May to 7 June [Boötes]
27 June to 6 July [Hercules]
28 July to 6 August / 25 August to 2 September [Cygnus]
21 to 31 October [Pegasus]
20 to 30 November / 20 December to 30 December [Perseus]

These dates are also posted at...
http://www.globeatnight.org/5-steps.php#dates

In 2015 Louisiana broke a record with over 115 measurements, a vast majority of them coming from the Baton Rouge area. I would like to set a goal of 200 measurements for the 2016 calendar year. Last night and tonight are no good for measuring, but tomorrow night and Monday night are forecast by NOAA as "mostly clear".

The GLOBE at Night website has yet to transition to solely 2016 information.

Even though this session lasts until the 10th, tonight is probably the last cloudless night for its duration (if NOAA is correct). It doesn't get completely dark until ~6:45pm, but I'd take a measurement before about 10:15pm since afterwards the clouds come along with a zero degree wind chill. Danko predicts above average transparency and average seeing.

On the 4th I took my first four measurements of the year...
*old Tinseltown parking lot [ID 832]
*McCann (just off Siegen) [ID 833]
*new Women's Hospital parking lot [ID 834]
*corner of Highcrest and Green Hill [ID 835]

Merrill and Ben have each taken at least one measurement in January.

The next GLOBE at Night session begins on Monday the first. The constellation Orion remains the "test area". At this time Louisiana has entered nineteen measurements--9.5% of the goal of 200!

Tonight is a good night! The NOAA forecast for 8pm gives...
precipitation potential, 4%
sky cover, 21%
relative humidity, 54%

I will attempt to take four measurements after an appointment I have. If I can't do it, I'll try tomorrow as the forecast remains "clear".

On the 10th during the 10pm hour I took three more measurements...
*Plank Road between Baker and Zachary had an SQM of 19.49 [ID 2672]
*Plank Road just north of Zachary-Deerford Road had an SQM of 19.46 [ID 2673]
*corner of Hillcrest Drive and Donnie had an SQM of 19.61 [ID 2674]

So far there are twenty-seven reports from Louisiana. The next GLOBE at Night session is 1 March to 10 March; it is the last session to use the constellation Orion.

The current GLOBE at Night session runs until Thursday night. Tonight is an excellent time to perform this exercise. So please, before midnight go somewhere legal and safe and follow the directions of the GaN website.

Let's reach that Louisiana goal of 200 measurements!

The next GLOBE at Night session runs from 30 March to 8 April. The constellation to be used is Leo. Louisiana is currently at thirty-one observations for 2016. We'll need to pick up speed to reach 200!

Last night during the 10pm hour I took two more measurements...
*The corner of Blount Road and Plank Road had an SQM of 18.70 [ID 11563]
*Hooper Road just west of the Blackwater intersection had an SQM of 19.03 [ID 11565]

So far there are thirty-five reports from Louisiana. This GLOBE at Night session lasts until Sunday night.

This current GLOBE at Night session ends Sunday night, but only tonight and Friday and Saturday nights are useful for this task. I hope to collect six to ten measurements tonight.
