The Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club will conduct an amateur radio licensing test session for anyone interested in obtaining membership in the FCC's Amateur Radio Service. This family-friendly hobby teaches basic electronics, communication etiquette and emergency procedures--all within the context of a great social medium that has been around for the better part of a century. One can even be trained at a later date via the Skywarn Network to help with storm-spotting, earn prestigious contact awards and have a chance to one day actually communicate with an astronaut or cosmonaut on board the International Space Station!
The question pool, containing questions similar to those chosen by the FCC for actual tests, is online. A question-and-answer review session will take place on Thursday, 2 May at 6:30pm at the Greenwell Springs Library. The testing session itself will take place on Thursday, 9 May at 6:30pm at the same location.
Although the class sessions, each covering various topics, are not required they are highly recommended. All classes take place Thursdays at 6:30pm, again at the Greenwell Springs Library.

14 February: “Control” / “Mind the Rules”
21 February: “Technician Frequencies” / “Your First Radio”

Re: 2013 Amateur Radio License Classes and Test Sessions
Three testing sessions are upcoming for those interested in getting into the Amateur Radio Service...
Thursday 18 July, 6pm at Southern University
Tuesday 30 July, 6pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church
Tuesday 29 October, 6pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church
A technician class ARS license is a great introduction to basic electrical principles and safety, emergency communications, and perhaps even amateur radio astronomy like moonbounce and meteor scatter.
