2014 American Radio Relay League Field Day

Post by Christopher K. »

This year's ARRL Field Day emergency exercise runs from 1pm CDT on Saturday, 28 June to 1pm CDT on Sunday, 29 June. The stated goal is "to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions". Field Day being the most popular Amateur Radio event, it is expected that 30,000 to 40,000 North American "hams" will take part this year.

Anyone interested in finding out more about obtaining an amateur radio license should contact his or her local club. The Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club will host a GOTA station and other educational activities this Saturday from 2pm to 10pm at the Highland Road Park Observatory. Attendance is free.

ARRL Field Day was awesome! A good public crowd, interested and excited, attended. Several of the crowd got on the GOTA Station. Science Academy Lunar Cadet Ricky D. contacted Hawaii, and the father of Jovian Cadet Taylor C. got Austria! Mr. Buddy (N5BUD) manned the Morse practice table.

After public time ended at 10pm, I operated for a few hours, getting a total of twenty-three contacts.
