HRPO's twentieth anniversary is soon upon us, and the three partners in the venture (BREC, LSU, BRAS) are working to make this the best calendar year of public offerings in the facility's history! 2017's IAD celebration is on Saturday 29 April at the Highland Road Park Observatory. The event runs from 3pm to 11pm. There is no admission fee and the event is for all ages.

Once again, HRPO will host visitors from the Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club, the Baton Rouge Gem and Mineral Society, the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, the Civil Air Patrol, the East Baton Rouge Parish Library and LIGO.

The Train Like an Astronaut layout will be expanded! A Scope-on-a-Rope session and a chemistry demonstration will also take place. There will be viewing (weather permitting) of the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Omega Centauri. Also, this will be the third year that the IAD event will host multiple robots from local U.S. First Robotics high school teams!

There will be a dry slide and spacewalk for the kids. The hugely popular Adventure Quest game will return.

There will be raffle drawings for prizes totaling over $650; the top prize is soon to be determined. This is the eleventh in the very successful, very popular string of annual IAD events at HRPO. If you've never experienced it, please come and bring your family and friends!
