2017 Spooky Spectrum

Post by Christopher K. » November 29th, 2016, 3:42 pm

HRPO's twentieth anniversary is soon upon us, and the three partners in the venture (BREC, LSU, BRAS) are working to make this the best calendar year of public offerings in the facility's history!

2017's Spooky Spectrum will be held on Saturday 21 October; the time will probably be 6pm to 10pm. It's usually the Saturday immediately before Halloween, but we've received word that 2017's Observe the Moon Night will be on the 28th! This is rather early but I wanted to post this now so the great patrons that have supported us to this point can take part in as many twentieth anniversary events as possible.

Well, the show will go on...just probably not the parts in the sky!

Below is the current NOAA forecast for 6pm to 10pm on Saturday...
precipitation potential, 40%
sky cover, 85%
relative humidity, 72%
temperature, 27˚C
surface wind, SE 13 km/h

If this forecast holds, the Spooky Spectrum will be truncated to a 6pm to 9pm time frame in order to consolidate all non-weather-dependent elements and give the event a more solid schedule. The event will see the premiere of our new spectrum source which will show the illuminated spectrums of hydrogen, helium, neon and carbon dioxide.

Here will be the revised schedule if the rain chance does not drop below 30%...
6pm to 6:45pm = Vacuum Packed Fun
6pm to 7pm = Dry-Ice Bubbles
6:15pm = Scary Space Story #1
6:20pm = Exploding Pumpkin
6:30pm to solution = GAME: Adventure Quest
6:30pm to 8pm = Scope-on-a-Rope
6:40pm = Fire Cyclone
7pm = Scary Space Story #2
7pm = GAME: Ice Giants
7:20pm to 8pm = Infrared Goggles Interaction
7:45pm = Scary Space Story #3
8pm to 8:30pm = Spectrum Source Interaction
8pm to solution = GAME: Monster Fight
[Three other interactions and four demonstrations will take place all three hours.]

Although there is no admission fee, HRPO is requesting that patrons consider bringing one dollar per person in support of HRPO’s annual donation drive. HRPO’s front gate will be opened at 5:45pm.
