Our country passed legislation founding the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics on 3 March 1915 to foster aviation research; the first meeting took place in April of that year in the office of the Secretary of War. NACA was the precursor to NASA.

A NACA Centenary Symposium at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum began today and will conclude tomorrow. This was today's schedule in Central Time...
8:15am, "Welcoming Remarks and Keynote Address"
9:15am, "Panel Discussion: Setting the Stage"
12pm, "Early History of NACA"
2pm, "Flight Test and Research"

This is tomorrow's schedule...
8:10am, "NACA in the 1930s"
9am, "Key Aspects of NACA Research"
12pm, "Transformations"
2:30pm, "Panel Discussion: The Next Assignment"
All of these activities can be seen live on NASA-TV2.

11:30am, "Flight Test and Research"
1pm, "NACA in the 1930s"

There is plenty of material available about the NACA.

Today at 1pm CDT all three NASA-TVs will broadcast the live dedication of the Katherine Johnson Computation Research Facility.

Johnson began working for NACA in 1953, retired from NASA in 1986. She has earned the NASA Lunar Orbiter Award and three NASA Special Achievement Awards. Also, she was named Mathematician of the Year in 1997 by the National Technical Association.

Today at 12pm CDT both NASA-TVs will air a live broadcast of the Langley Research Center's dedication ceremony of the Katherine G. Johnson Computational Research Facility. I'm not sure what this event entails, as I thought there was a "dedication" in the spring of 2016. Perhaps that past event was only an announcement of the naming.

At any rate, today's event will be rebroadcast at 5pm CDT and 8pm CDT on both NASA-TVs.
