2018 Spooky Spectrum

Post by Christopher K. » January 5th, 2018, 6:01 pm

The twelfth annual Spooky Spectrum will take place at the Highland Road Park Observatory on Saturday 20 October from 6pm to 10pm. Since International Observe the Moon Night is now almost always on or near the Saturday for the Spooky Spectrum, HRPO will no longer have a separate OMN. Instead, OMN activities will be incorporated into the Spooky Spectrum event.

Once again, we can expect the wonderful cool-and-tasty treat of City Gelato to grace HRPO grounds during The Spooky Spectrum. Personnel have confirmed with Mario; he or an employee will be onsite. The cost per serving is usually four to seven dollars.

Premiering Friday in the Wormhole at HRPO (http://hrpo.lsu.edu/observatory/wormhole_donations.html) will be a classic C. Roberts 1960s (or 70s) "spooky owl love" painting. It will be on prominent display during the Spooky Spectrum--if it hasn't been purchased already!

By the way, there will be an on-site photographer for the Spooky Spectrum, taking still shots and video for HRPO promotions.

Ty-Ty's will be providing the hot food. All food prices will be on the HRPO webpage on Monday.

The Knightmare Chess cards continue to be given out as rewards for money placed into HRPO's small Vortex. This will carry through the Spooky Spectrum event.

The Dark Quest game will start promptly at 6pm, the beginning of the Spooky Spectrum event. The game is a special version of HRPO's classic Adventure Quest game used at International Astronomy Day.

HRPO has received a donation of thirteen aloe vera plants--that's appropriate for our Halloween event. Five dollars will get a donor a small plant; ten dollars and the donor will receive a large one. Cash or check only, please. There's only thirteen of them!

The Spooky Spectrum will take place from 6pm to 10pm as planned. There will be no campfire; the stories will be recounted in a different location. There will probably be very few celestial objects available, as it is an almost-overcast situation.
