Post by Christopher K. » August 23rd, 2018, 1:34 pm

1 October is the sixtieth birthday of the federal agency that changed our lives for the better. There will be a variety of celebrations, acknowledgements and remembrances across the country--from retirees, staff and members of the public.

The Highland Road Park Observatory will host a party honoring NASA during its sixtieth birthday season. The party will occur on Saturday 29 September, 6:30pm to 10:30pm. There is no admission fee and the event is for all ages. The focus of the Party will be the highlighting of past NASA successes like the X-15, Explorer 1, Apollo 8, Apollo 11, Viking, Voyager, Cassini and New Horizons.

Ms. Amy will be asking all incoming kids for "mission proposals". There will be a location dedicated to making an argument for heading to a certain location in space. Where would you go, and why?

HRPO's NASA Party is still "on". However, due to the thirty-four percent rain chance, there will be no attempted telescope viewing. If it begins to rain anytime after 6:30pm, the Party will end sooner than 10:30pm.

HRPO closed early due to high rain chance (and actual rain) but over sixty visited for the 60th Anniversary Party. Kids earned small prizes for taking part in the "Mission Planner" and "Meet the Planets" activities, and for taking a tour of the 20OGS.

Tonight at 7:30pm CDT and at 9pm CDT NASA-TV will show something labeled on its website as "NASA 60th Anniversary Video Series".
