You may have noticed some changes made on the web site (and if you didn't, what am I doing this for?? :?: ). Moving to a Unix server meant the old cgi counter/clock program wouldn't work without some fiddling around with compiling and permissions and such. I couldn't do the compiling on my end, so rather than bother Mike after all he did setting up the server on the first place, I went looking for alternatives. While in the interim I had the counter and clocks point to the cgi program on the old server, I didn't want that as a permanent solution because it's dependent on an outside server, and uses their resources as well, even though the site isn't there anymore.

The hit counter I ended up replacing with a PHP program. I originally found a nice Java program, but it required doing something on the server which I couldn't, so it wouldn't increment. The new counter does have the drawback of incrementing on reloads and multiple visits from the same user in a day, so it's not a unique visitor counter as before, but it gets the job done.

The clocks in the top banner are all the same Java program. While the disadvantage of Java is that some people don't use it out of safety concerns, I look at it as that's their problem. :D And it's far out-weighed by the fact that the clocks now update in real time! The old program only produced a static image that you had to reload in order to change.

This program does a few more things that I might implement down the road. For I was just concentrating on getting our old stuff replaced.

Check out the Member Astrophotos section of the website. Fred has put all of the contributers up at the top and linked to their submissions. Easy to get to the stuff you want to check out. Now we need to get some more club members to contribute their work so we can get some new images up there!

Thanks, Fred!

That was Chris's suggestion, though I had thought of it myself too.

And yes, we need more and newer images.

What is the preferred way of submitting images to you?

E-mail is best, along with as much info as you can/want about the image.

Nope. It just takes longer. :D

(I have a fiber optic account, so size isn't a problem on my end.)
