The last Edge of Night event for 2017 takes place today. Below is the NOAA forecast for HRPO's event time of 4:45pm to 6:45pm...
precipitation potential, 3%
sky cover, 0%
relative humidity, 54%
temperature, 16˚C
surface wind, NE 8 km/h

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "transparent" (5 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "good" (4 out of 5). Viewing will take place with unaided eyes and binoculars. We ask that all who participate consider bringing one dollar for this year's Donation Drive, which ends on Saturday the 18th. HRPO will close immediately after the Edge of Night event.

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time both the transparency rating and the seeing rating will be "average" (3 out of 5). This evening's 20OGS operator was to be BREC Nighttime Center Supervisor Jordan Cobbs. However, the 20OGS' operating computer is currently being serviced by LSU; the 16OGS shutter is currently being serviced by BREC. Viewing will take place with a portable telescope. HRPO will close at 10pm.

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time both the transparency rating and the seeing rating will be "average" (3 out of 5).

The Cosmos 2278 rocket is predicted to make a magnitude 2.2 pass beginning at 5:56pm. The ALOS satellite is predicted to make a magnitude 2.1 pass beginning at 6:32pm. The Iridium 64 satellite is predicted to flare to magnitude -0.3 at 6:38pm. HRPO personnel ask that all who visit this evening consider bringing one dollar for this year's Donation Drive, which ends tomorrow night. HRPO will close immediately after the Natural Sky Conference.

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "poor" (1 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "bad". This evening's 20OGS operator was to be BREC Nighttime Center Supervisor Jordan Cobbs. However, there will be no viewing. However, as tonight is a Plus Night, there will still be several physical science demonstrations on the main floor. Additionally, the Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club will be transmitting in association with a special contact award; all patrons are encouraged to practice Morse code with the BRARC members. HRPO will close at 9:15pm.

The Highland Road Park Observatory will be closed on Friday 24 November and Saturday 25 November. Public viewing at HRPO will resume (weather permitting) on Friday 1 December.

Telescope viewing will also take place at the front viewing pad. The first half of the viewing period will probably be better. HRPO will close at 10pm.

NOAA predicts the wind chill factor will be below freezing until about 9:30am tomorrow. Coupled with the fact that there is still falling snow, the public is not allowed onto HRPO property until 10am tomorrow morning.

The "Star of Bethlehem" talk, tonight's Evening Sky Viewing and tomorrow's planned "Asteroids and Comets" session of Science Academy are all cancelled. HRPO personnel will work with Professor Schaefer to see if he can reschedule.

This evening's 20OGS operator is to be BREC Center Supervisor Jordan Cobbs. The 20OGS will be in operation; however, the 20OGS shutter is currently being serviced by BREC Maintenance and will not be open.

The majority of the viewing will focus on the planet Uranus. HRPO will close at 9:30pm.
