A new Light Pollution Committee of the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society has been formed. It meets on the second Monday of the month at 6:15pm at the Highland Road Park Observatory. Its purpose is to actively address the problems of light trespass, glare and sky glow in the greater Baton Rouge area.

The next meeting of the Committee is Monday 10 November. The public is invited to attend.

There will not be a separate Light Pollution Committee meeting this month. Instead, this month's meeting will be incorporated into the International Year of Light Preview Party on the 19th from 6pm to 10pm.

The next meeting of the Committee will be Monday 13 April, 6:45pm at the Highland Road Park Observatory. April will be a very busy month for BRAS! There are several outreaches, International Astronomy Day on the 25th and other duties. The Commitee is fast becoming a focal point of concerns about energy waste via inappropriate and indiscriminate outdoor lighting. This Committee session will cover the notes of the 10 March meeting BRAS had with Ms. Credeur of the Atchafalaya Trace Commission. Also, the suggestion will be presented to offer to local churches, schools and businesses onsite SQM taking by BRAS.

The next meeting of the Committee will be Monday 13 July, 6:15pm at the Highland Road Park Observatory. A number of full-cut off (FCO) streetlamps have been spotted in a number of growing locations throughout the Parish. Anyone who believes he or she has new information to contribute to "FCO spotting" please come.

There will not be a regular BRAS meeting afterward.

At tonight's meeting we'll discuss the possibilities of viewing Pluto in light-polluted skies. Also, a conversation a BRAS member has with a member of a city council here is EBR Parish will be mentioned.

The next Committee meeting is tonight, 6:15pm at HRPO. During this meeting we'll discuss Ben's new construction (a light pollution compare/contrast of three different light fixtures). We'll also discuss the draft for the BRAS Dark Sky Friend Award.

I showed Ben's light box during the Committee to Roz and Cathy and Chris D. (I think Steven also saw it though he was on his laptop). Ben showed the box to everyone else during the meeting proper. I also mentioned my rough draft of BRAS' second observing certificate--the Dark Sky Friend Award.
