Swift-Tuttle was discovered independently in July 1862 by both Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle. This comet is responsible for the path of debris that Earth cuts through in mid-August, creating the Perseid Meteor Shower (a fact discovered by Schiaparelli in 1865).
