Vesta Viewing, 2020

Small pieces of rock, with a big influence (just ask the dinosaurs).

Vesta Viewing, 2020

Post by Christopher K. »

It will be a nice Easter Monday morning, anyway. Here is the NOAA forecast for 12am CDT...
precipitation potential, 6%
sky cover, 1%
relative humidity, 71%
temperature, 21˚C
surface wind, W 13 km/h

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "excellent" (5 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "poor" 2 out of 5). This is an excellent forecast--these should last through morning twilight.

If you have a binocular, aim it toward Epsilon Tauri. Vesta is less than two-thirds of a degree away, shining at magnitude 8.4. A 10x instrument may reveal it if skyglow isn't too bad.
