2022 General Lunar Viewing

Post by Christopher K. »

Though below the horizon, the Moon is Last Quarter right now. It will rise at 1:21am tomorrow morning in Ophiuchus. We should be able to see it in the southwest until about 9:30am.

New Moon was this morning at 11:55am. Take advantage of its absence; it should be clear enough until 10:45pm. Gemini will be at zenith, and Cancer and Lynx and Auriga will be available as well.

Full Moon was at 8:36pm tonight. You can see it rising now, though you’ll have to look through a high level of humidity. If you want any level of transparency, try looking between 11pm and 4am.

Full Moon is in just a few hours--8:59am CDT. It can be seen now (effectively Full) rising in the east in Aquarius. It culminates due south at 1:03am CDT and can be seen in the sky until about 5:30am CDT, give or take a few minutes depending on your western horizon.

Last Quarter Moon was 12:15pm CDT today.

The NOAA forecast calls for fine viewing through morning twilight—maximum one percent rain chance, cloud cover under forty percent and humidity under seventy percent. Danko calls for below average seeing but average transparency.
