Baton Rouge Astronomical Society MeetingsThe next meeting of The Baton Rouge Astronomical Society will held Monday, August 9th beginning at 7:00 pm at the Highland Road Park Observatory. The public is invited to attend.
The meeting topic is The Tyche Conjecture.
This month's meeting will feature a presentation from Dr. John J. Matese, Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. We discuss the possibility that there exists a Jovian mass solar companion orbiting in the Oort comet cloud. The putative companion has been dubbed Tyche, the good sister of Nemesis, by the WISE group (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) who have recently launched a satellite capable of detecting such an object for the first time. Observational evidence for, and against, the conjecture will be discussed.
